And The World's A Stage

I am on a roll aren’t I! 3 entries in a day, wooozaaah emoticon!

Saturday we had a quick dinner at Loy Kee (I won’t even say the full name because it’s not true). Disappointing, VERYYY disappointing! Have they undergone some changes in their management? Because it seems all these new staff cannot cook/ provide lousy service.

Whoever gave high ratings for Loy Kee @ Balestier obviously haven’t:

  1. Tried Wee Nam Kee
  2. Ate Loy Kee for the past 10 years

Their standard has PLUMMETED and basically what you’re eating is overpriced, overrated local delight.

Service

The lady we spoke to was curt and the worst, she’d rather look at the main road than our pretty faces when talking to us. What the hell. I’m sure the Suzuki parking outside will be paying for our meals later.

Food

For a meal like that it cost about SGD56.
NOT WORTH IT AT ALL

Our soup came TASTELESS. It literally taste like water with a faint ginger smell. We informed the staff and she (not the previous rude lady we encountered) gave us a new bowl which…

TASTED THE SAME.

Water. Hot ginger water with sparse spring onion floating.

emoticon

Now they have to wash one more extra bowl.

The ginger dip which used to pack a mean punch now taste like… puree. Water-y, no kick and no fragrance. I feel like I’m eating papier-mâché. Gross.

This whole re-branding Loy Kee to bring back the old charm is so not working for me. Don’t bother packing your meals from there because they’ve gone from traditional styrofoam (albeit un-environmental friendly) which fills to the brim to some colourful PAPER box that gives you fucking little rice and thin strips breast meat.

You want me to pay 3plus$ for something like that?

Tolong hor, don’t waste my time and money.

Crystal Chicken Feet? Used to be drenched in chili sauce, nice cold and chewy. But now? Tasteless. No chili, only seaseme oil. Pathetic emoticon

Thank goodness the chili dip, rice and vegetable still taste the same. Don’t bother with the fried wantan too. It only taste mediocre.

My family has been eating Loy Kee for the longest time ever, and we’re also a fan of their breakfast (which is pretty new actually, came out only 5-6 years prior?) but now, shitty as hell. Coffee was cold (even though we told the staff there, they’d still come back with the same cold coffee), French Toast MANHANDLED, shrinking egg size, the list is endless!

And they used to have a small, retro TV box that broadcast SHOWS but now? A fancy schmany plasma TV that broadcast Powerpoint slides of images of their food. Can anyone say TURN OFF?

I wonder what happened. Time and time again we’d still go back thinking "aiya, maybe it’s just today", but nothing has improved. I think this may be our last trip there. Anyway, on to the pictures.

Want to eat GOOD CHICKEN RICE THAT DOESN’T AIM TO IMPRESS WITH FANCY NAMES AND INTERIOR? Head to Wee Nam Kee at Novena Ville. It is what it is. Good happy rice and yummy succulent chicken. Period.

Sunday (03/08/2008)

After church we rushed to the temple for the mid-month 7th Month prayer for my Grandparents. Hahaha, sometimes I feel we hold "dual-citizenship" when it comes to religion (* ̄m ̄)

Anyway, the "拜拜" was suppose to be next weekend but most of them would be at Genting so it was pushed forward. No complains there!

We all proceeded for lunch after that.

Lunch was at Imperial Herbal at VivoCity. Food was nice and the service? TOP-NOTCH! It could be partially due to the fact that Sunday’s lunch crowd was thin which in turn allowed the staff to be more attentive.

I don’t know what is this tea but it was nice. Pleasant to the eye and to the stomach.

Lovely ladies (mum with her sisters)!
Anticlockwise – 3rd aunt, mummy (youngest kid of the family), 2nd aunt and 大姨

I have 6 uncles, 3 aunts and about 2 dozen other cousins. Oh and a couple of nephews and nieces too. BIG FAMILY emoticon But not all were present lah. Ever since gamy passed away, there were less meetups. Oh well. That’s just the way it is…

L-R: My sister, me and my cousin!

Food pictures! We got them to serve us as individual portions so it might look a little messy and unforgiving. But believe me, it taste much better than it looks.

Go ahead, LICK THE SCREEN IF YOU CAN’T RESIST.

Heh.

Egg white and some other things on top of deep fried potato-strings. I felt it was just okay, but I saw almost every table ordering this.

I feel so guilty for saying this but the Sharks Fin Soup is really good! So far the best I’ve eaten. Very generous with the fins, the broth is thick and doesn’t get very water-y towards the end. YUM YUMMY YUMMMMMYYYYY!

Fish with morsels of mushrooms. Nice tangy sour-ness to this one and the fish was superbly fresh!

Kong Bak Bao (KBB). The seemingly simple dish of sliced meat and soft bun has 2 faces to it.

When seen by a health nut,
KBB = Cardiac Arrest

When seen by a food addict,
KBB = Collagen

We love to fool ourselves don’t we?! Heh!

Prawns with walnut

Mushrooms and veggie

By the time we reached the noodles, 90% of us has already KO-ed. Dessert was walnut paste, something new rather than peanut, almond or black seaseme!

Check out my neon bands! I’m sooo addicted to neon colours right now

Headed to Daiso and bought so many useless Hello Kitty crap. It’s an addiction I swear. Then shopped a little in town before heading over to my place. Bernie’s been asking me to try Asahi since forever because he say’s "very good, very smooth".

会 meh?

Not nice at all sia. So bitter and the aftertaste leaves you cringing. Taste a little vaguely like Tiger Beer which I hate. I have no idea why these crazy ang mohs go nuts over Tiger Beer. Even Prince William had it for his party.
